One of our most commonly encountered skin concern by clients is enlarged pores.
Whenever we ask clients during consultation what they would like to improve in their skin, enlarged pores come under their top 3 main concerns. This is very apparent in the younger age group.
Sometimes, clients mistakenly identify their acne scars as enlarged pores. So it is always advisable for you to point out to the consultant/doctor what you perceive as enlarged pores.
Firstly, putting on make up becomes frustrating because our skin surface will still feel rough. Then, we try to salvage the situation by slapping on thick layers of foundation/concealer to cover the “pits” for a flawless finishing.
Secondly, a combination of oil with dead skin in pores causes clog. Clogs trap oil in the pore, causing pores to enlarge. Therefore, enlarged pores with oily skin commonly leads to acne prone skin.
The eternal chase for fine pores are justifiable. Light reflects better when pores are tight. This gives an overall appearance of vitality, youthfulness and health. Make up glides better resulting in a smooth baby-skin appearance.
It is simply due to the oil glands producing too much oil (sebum). Excessive cleansing of facial oil leads to paradoxical increase in sebum production
Sleep deprivation / sleeping late stresses the body. Body produces cortisol as reaction to stress. Cortisol stimulates sebum production. Lack of drinking fluids lead to dry skin and increase in sebum production. Diet high in simple sugars causes excessive sebum production.
Extrinsic aging with solar elastosis causes thickened, rough, yellowish and enlarged pores. The size of pores in solar elastosis are amplified by loss of elastic recoil, coupled with the pull of gravity resulting in overstretched pores. For the older age group, intensive collagen stimulation is vital to grow new healthy collagen.
